Dolls and Ceramics: BJD Hybrid and Heart Boxes

April 30, 2023 Megann Zabel
Peakswoods Hybrid KoonieS Doll Chateau Heartbox

The doll comes from a dear friend of mine, Alison. She was parting with this doll at a convention and I fell in love with her. My friend has such a good eye for color, fashion, and interesting BJD hybrids. She even dressed the doll in this cute ensemble! The doll pictured is a hybrid of a Peak’s Woods KoonieS head on a Doll Chateau kid body. The outfit is from a Tonner doll called “The Intriguing” that fits the Antoinette body. The lace bodysuit is a little tight and makes in hard to pose the doll, but I do my best to make it work since I love the attire.

The ceramic item pictured is my heart box made from a slipcasting mold. It’s an old Duncan mold I picked up a couple years ago and it’s one of my favorites. I typically put a few pieces of handmade heart-shaped recycled paper in each box.

There are more images of several heart boxes and the doll on my Instagram account.

BJD Hybrid: Doll Chateau & Peak's Woods

A few years ago, I tracked down a Doll Chateau Y-03 body in normal pink skin to make a hybrid BJD with a Peak’s Woods normal skin FOC head. At this point, I have more than one floating Peak’s Woods head for my Doll Chateau body and decided to try swapping heads out. In this post, I used a relatively new Elf Tristan head with a wonderful faceup from HHortusConclususs on Etsy. The head is quite a bit more pink than the body, but I will mellow it out if I decide I like the combo. My other older Peak’s Woods head work much better with the body since they have the aged resin color. I blushed the body to make the resin color difference less noticeable. I also took out the extra joints in the neck and wrists to make the doll a little more realistic.

Larger Doll Chateau bodies are so fun because the fingers and toes are articulated.

I swapped out a few wigs and eyes in this photo shoot. Which is your fav? The light blue eyes seem so vibrant in the head and really pop in the photos. It’s hard for me to decide between the purple or blonde wig.

This poor girl only has the one dress I made shortly after I received the body. I think it is time for an update in wardrobe. Maybe something lacy? We’ll see.

Experimenting with Hybrids: Doll Chateau & Peak's Woods

November 4, 2014 Megann Zabel

A while back, I posted about BJD hybrids on BJDs for Beginners.  See below.  I've included an extra photo. BJD hybrids are always a great way to get a fabulous custom doll all your own, but when different parts of the doll come from different doll companies, finding a skin tone match can be difficult.  Also, the age of the resin can be an issue.  After a good amount of research and searching for the right body, I decided to give my Peak's Woods normal skin Rogita head a Doll Chateau normal pink skin body (Y-03 girl body).  The body and head were slightly different in color, but a little body blushing blending the two together quite well and it's hard to even see the difference in photos.

Doll Chateau makes great exaggerated bodies with all kinds of extra joints.  I took the wrist and neck pieces out, but I love the doll this way.  What do you think?

Consider experimenting with doll bodies and heads.  It can be quite fun.
